German bakery

Disclaimer:

I've heard that Germans don't have as much of a sweet tooth as Americans, so I guess Sri Lankans are similar to Americans in this regard.

5🌟CHRISTMAS STOLLEN LARGE 800g LKR 3000/-
Comes gift wrapped

I really liked the sweet ginger preserve bits in the first taste since it was soft and tangy like blue cheese. And the coating of sugar undoubtedly provided an extra dose of sweetness in the morning.

4🌟Chocolate walnut brownie slab, 400g LKR 1175/-

This was not at all like the browni I've had in Sri Lanka; rather, it was more like a delicate plain cake with almonds on top. What I found is that the chocolate aftertaste is more prominent than this distinct kind of sweetness which is a plus.

3🌟Cinnamon bun x 2 LKR 950/-

In terms of cinnamon rolls, I would say that this one was inferior to those I've had at Cinnabrown and other home bakers, The filling was more like a light raisin-cinnamon filling, and it was light and flaky but not as flaky as a croissant. (I believe my tastebuds require everything strong)

My verdict as a Sri Lankan (who would not have travelled as much) (my moms POV)  It was like a rich tea bun, 😅

5🤩 Crystal Prawn Dumpling LKR1500  MUST TRY  🤤 Simple but i loved it! Glistening in a pearl-like sheet, these dumplings are a visual feast. Delicately wrapped, each bite reveals a succulent prawn, offering a taste as light as the ocean breeze. 5🌟 Chicken Scallops and Chives Dumpling LKR1500 Shaped like an ear, with a slight roast enhancing the hidden, lightly flavored meatball. A vibrant presentation adds to the overall experience. 🤩 Sweet and Sour Garupa LKR7000  MUST TRY  The star of the table, initially intimidating with its head and eyes. Despite the initial scare, guests devoured it like a salad. Fried in a light batter with a golden syrup bath, the fish body surprises with a bone-free, crunchy delight. The hint of pineapple, sweet corn, and the crunch of bell pepper leave you yearning for more. 🤩 XO Fried Rice with Scallops and Prawns LKR2900  MUST TRY  A loaded delight with prawns and egg, making additional side dishes nearly obsolete. 5 ⭐️ Sich...

Central all day dining- Shangrila buffet

New year dinner for 4 pax without taxes - 50,000/- (12,500 per person)  It was undoubtedly a crowded evening at the Central Cafe in Shangila. We had booked appointments to eat there during the celebrations for the new year. As in usual days they have a variety of menu, but they yet again made it extravagant.  There were several meat carvings, including hog, turkey, and fish, along with a wide selection of sauces, veggies, pickles, and condiments and not mention the ice carvings that one can admire inclusive a cheese fountain.      In 1971, Malaysian entrepreneur Robert Kuok introduced the Shangri-La chain of hotels. The first Shangri-La hotel debuted in Singapore in 1971, and since then the company has grown to include hotels all over the world under its renowned luxury hotel brand. Consequently, you will find some foreign chefs and management maintaining the international standards and it also  adds a Singaporean and Hong Kong touch in their menu. Even tho...

Manjal

OVERALL MANJAL IS A MUST TRY EXPERIENCE TO HAVE  Despite the fact that I am of Indian descent, as a child i did not particularly enjoy India or Chennai for that matter, because of how dirty and dusty the roads were and how many residents resemble the villains from Tamil film. Now i have matured far from that mind set :)  TOTAL BILL FOR 4 ADULTS - INR 2895.00 The MANJAL genuine south Indian restaurant is located in Poes Garden, which seemed to be the only street with trees and had a pleasant atmosphere. I initially saw that all the food items were being presented to a local god as soon as we arrived after being cordially greeted. The menu was brought out as we seated, then a man entered with the food trays that I had seen on display and read out the titles so we could select, and ask questions about the food. ( i must admit he was quite fast so do pay attention)  Rasam was excellent and mild—very unlike Tamil Nadu or Sri Lankan cuisine. I believe I was hoping for a heavier...
