Thotupola lakeside - a day trip

Since I am attached to a collage we organized a quick day trip, the coach we arranged to travel was very comfortable and clean, but too fancy for such a short trip!

The hotel was filled with flora & fauna and there was a cleared area for play, and far out was the pound. the pond of course was I felt it was dirty, as the water was a bit stagnant.

property was quite huge, thing to be noted was that they had taken pictures of their staff and hung them around the property as a work of art.

so after the welcome drink we got to do some warm up exercises to get ready for the rock climbing

After the warm up, they explained about the rock climbing gear, and told that it was very safe. Only two at a time were possible to do the game while the others cheered for the participants. even the girls were interested.

This activity was done by one of the staff, mostly in Sinhala and it was fun, yes we are not dressed appropriately for this climb as mostly the girls didn't know what to wear, its a Sri Lankan thing, haha

well the climb was pretty hard even though I didn't participate ( I had recently acquired a bad back ache)   even some of the boys gave up, by just few steps. I can imagine the gravity pulling hard on them. They also said their palms got very sweaty and not all of those bulbs that had fixed had foot holds,

so what i was informed was that you have to stick close to the wall and as you climb the trainer will help you buy pulling you up. ( Easy said than done)

What i witnessed was that it was not easy to stick to the wall and to find the correct foothold, and when you slip its instinct to push back, so you kind of swing forward to the wall, because you don't want to hit the wall on your face.

This is a good start for an adventure, and you really need to be calm and have precise calculation.

As the event progressed, the bites came and so did the beer, so we all kind of rested as it was a hot day. and I went to the room.

The room was this bad. the AC worked well though, no towels or soap, it was just barely cleaned. this was the only downside of the hotel ( yes its a major drawback, only if your intention was to stay in the room)

While a most of the participants were climbing and a few were busy with the drinks and me particularly with the stray dogs, others went for the zip line, I could not get any pics as it was too fast and my phone memory was full.
Pls note they went to a roof top of where the rock climbing was in stairs and zip lined into the lake. ( Yes the murky lake) which I was informed that it is not dirty, its just that the ocean and lake meet at this point so there would be a smell and the look is not pleasing. since I didn't try zip lining I cant vouch for it, so ill take the word of the students who did that

. " It was fun, exciting and thrilling, we didn't care about the water being dirty"

"yes it was a bit off, and there wee some sort of weed that got wrapped as we went through the water, so it felt creepy at the same time, as we were expecting a crocodile!"

"I would do the zip line again a another 10 times if we had more time"

The hotel had arranged a buffet lunch of rice and curry and pasta, chicken, fish and vegetables, with the soup.

Just as the picture the food was simple and delicious, and surprisingly the pasta was good as well.

yes its been said after a heavy meal, do not get to the water, but that what the students exactly did.

all have a fun time splashing around and playing a game of water polo. (local version)

by now all the children bonded well, least most of them and that was the outcome we wanted from this trip

After the fun time at the pool, we changed and had plain tea, with jaggery and aggala! Now that was just a twist I liked, It was yummy and with the perfect amount of sweetness to go with the tea, quite filling too.

Will I Visit the this place again? Yes for an adventure that is so close by.

Kaikos - No tax

Brightly lit and featuring a play area for kids with various toys and activities, this space aims to evoke nostalgia with its old Sinhala songs reminiscent of an old Kade. Staff Are nice and welcoming  3.5 ⭐️  Salmon Cheese Sandwich (700/-)  A basic sandwich served hot, with the perfect amount of spice. Although the cheese was hardly noticeable, I'll definitely order this again. 4.5 ⭐️  Latte (650/-)  A perfectly crafted, regular latte without sugar. It’s just right. 4 ⭐️  Coconut Latte (750/-)  I initially thought this would be made with coconut milk, but it’s a regular latte topped with desiccated coconut flakes. Slightly sweeter than the regular latte, it's pleasant but not something I’d order again. 3⭐️Club Sandwich – 1000/- The fries accompanying the sandwich had an unpleasant aftertaste, suggesting that the oil used for frying was subpar. The sandwich itself fell short of a true club sandwich. While it featured multiple layers, the meat—possibly ...

Central all day dining- Shangrila buffet

New year dinner for 4 pax without taxes - 50,000/- (12,500 per person)  It was undoubtedly a crowded evening at the Central Cafe in Shangila. We had booked appointments to eat there during the celebrations for the new year. As in usual days they have a variety of menu, but they yet again made it extravagant.  There were several meat carvings, including hog, turkey, and fish, along with a wide selection of sauces, veggies, pickles, and condiments and not mention the ice carvings that one can admire inclusive a cheese fountain.      In 1971, Malaysian entrepreneur Robert Kuok introduced the Shangri-La chain of hotels. The first Shangri-La hotel debuted in Singapore in 1971, and since then the company has grown to include hotels all over the world under its renowned luxury hotel brand. Consequently, you will find some foreign chefs and management maintaining the international standards and it also  adds a Singaporean and Hong Kong touch in their menu. Even tho...
