Another foodie expedition today with the remaining members, 3 more days before they leave. we hope to catch up in Bali in April, but with all our busy schedule lets see how far we can go
If they ever visit Srilanka, visiting Culture Colombo is In their list mostly if time permits. This place holds a lot of found memories for us.
Total bill for 3 pax - LKR 13,075
Started off with drinks
4🌟Home made ginger beer LKR850
which is much less sweeter than commons and far stronger.
5🤩 Karapincha Tonic LKR 1350 MUST TRY
They likely added lemon soda to the karapuncha to give it an even stronger lemon flavor. Lemon slices were then added after being sweetened. Still this drink was quite refreshing even though i am not a fan of sweet drinks. Maybe i'll ask them to add plain soda instead?
What can i say we love our greens!
3🌟 Keeri samba rice LKR 690 Just basic rice
5🌟Gotukola sambolaya LKR 835 for me as I love the fresh green leaves and beware it was very spicy as there were chopped green chilies
5🌟Batu moju LKR 825
The sweet & sour "batumoju" was different to others as it was combined with a local fruit called "billig" which added to the unique flavor of this dish. I was impressed as these fruits are wasted if not and was very happy that it has been put to good use.
4🌟Kachal Rice LKR 4250 (it says for 2 pax)
My friends found this spicy but I did not.
I always wanted to try this Kachal rice, The top of the pot was full of all types of meat and seafood deep fried in batter, at the bottom of the food were the savory rice which was served with a spicy curry (which was quite oily non of us tasted it) and Boju with ash plantain which again had the similar taste as the batumoju but the texture was different . Why 4* as I am not much a fan of deep fried food.
Will I try this again? Yes only with a group of friends
last up is dessert!
5🌟🤤 Their Curd and Treacle is a MUST TRY
5*🌟🤤Coffee caramel LKR 950 is a MUST TRY
this was sweet and had the perfect balance of coffee and caramel!
3🌟Biscuit pudding LKR 975
By the look itself I realized it had more of butter icing than chocolate, Hence it was a turn off and sure enough, way too much icing and super duper sweet!
FUN FACT
What is the old name of Colombo?
As the largest city in Sri Lanka formerly known as Ceylon, Colombo is the financial and commercial capital of Sri Lanka. It has been ruled by the Portuguese, Dutch and British. ... belief is that the name is derived from the Sinhalese name කොල-අඹ-තොට Kola-amba-thota which means "Harbour with leafy mango trees".
5🤩🤩The roast paan LKR 375 each
The aroma of astra and the roast paan's golden tint instantly transport me back to my schooldays!
I could easily eat the entire meal without the curries today because they had added additional butter! Absolutely perfect. 🤤
4🌟 Paratha LKR 150 each
Today was flaky and crispy at the same time so it’s a HIT ( mind you sometimes it’s not)
Dallo rathata Sarath 3✨LKR 1875
looked unusually bright red and much more greasy than I would have preferred. The squid was more softer and sponge-like than I had anticipated.
4🌟Beans curry LKR 850
Was crunchy and the gravy thick.
4🌟Beetroot curry LKR850
Not overcooked and maintained its original flavor and color.
4🌟soya curry LKR720
Having absorbed all that spicy, coconutty flavor, they were nice and plump.
🤔Will I try this place again?
Yep, one of our favs
