Food - seafood restaurant **

1. Ambiance - vivid and brilliant (AC needs some work as it was a bit too hot)

2. Food presentation - colorful and palatable

3. Food taste - 5✩

4. Staff - friendly yet in need of instruction (they lack confidence in the menu)

5. Washroom - tidy yet with little room

6. Kid friendly - 2 kids chairs

7. Halal - as it’s run by a Muslim family

8. Prices LKR 500 - 7000 per person

** limited options for chicken and vegetarian is available

I started with

DRINKS

COLD PRESSED JUICE- 950/- 4✩

I went with pineapple, but it was a little too sweet and not as cooled for me. I requested for extra ice, which helped to offset the sweetness.

TIP: Say you don't want any sugar and want it on the side.

ICED MILO  - LKR 750/- 4

Made With fresh milk, sugar was neutral, and sprinkles were added, which I would have preferred without but my companion enjoyed.

SIDE DISHES

Protein in greens With Maldives fish dip LKR820/-  4✩

Slightly buttered boiled vegetables with a dip which I doubt that it had any Maldive fish in it as per the description. It was more like caramelized onion in a“thick pickle“ consistency a bit sour but complemented the vegetables very well.

SUPER STARTER

Battered cuttlefish LKR 1400/- 5

Cuttlefish that had been breaded and deep-fried and was flavorful as well as some colorful papad that was enjoyable to eat with tartar sauce.

MAINS

SALAD

Prawn cocktail LKR 1850/- 5

Loved the wooden bowl presentation! It went well with the plain salad, and the prawns had a very subtle flavor. I appreciate that they serve it as a dip rather than adding dressing.

Mediterranean prawns LKR 2250/- 5

I love that we received rice and fries! its like two favorite carbs

In contrast to other establishments, the fries were flavorful.

The rice was wonderful and fluffy, and it had some herbs and a great flavor of butter.

The delicious butter sauce that the prawns were covered in really brought out the taste of the rice and prawns.

Another day another review :) ( 17th Aug 23)

We were attended to by a cheerful elderly waiter who had a knack for puns. In the spirit of the moment, we exchanged a few puns ourselves, and since we were in high spirits, we all shared a good laugh about it.

The bill was pleasantly surprising with a 10% inclusive tax, making it quite friendly on the wallet. As a group of three, we decided to opt for the larger portion of the No.23 Peri Peri Prawns priced at LKR 4950, which included a generous serving of 18 prawns along with fried rice. It's worth noting that they offer a smaller portion with 8 prawns for LKR 2500.

The presentation of the dish was elegantly simple, served in a charming wooden bowl that caught our eyes. Despite not usually favoring fries, we couldn't resist the allure of the fresh and perfectly seasoned ones on the plate. Even as someone who typically isn't fond of rice, the non-sticky and pearl-like texture of the fried rice was truly inviting.

Now, let's talk about the highlight of the meal—the tiger prawns. They were bathed in a delectable spicy-sweet sauce that showcased an intricate texture. It was evident that the ingredients had been skillfully blended to create a symphony of flavors and depths in the dish. The taste was unlike the standard sweet and chili sauces we're accustomed to—it was a delightful departure.

One of our choices for beverages was the King Coconut with Lime, priced at LKR 390. The drink was served in the coconut itself, presenting a visually appealing experience. A suggestion would be that once the drink is finished, they could split the coconut to allow customers to enjoy the coconut flesh as well—a personal preference that I believe would enhance the overall experience. Personally, I lean towards enjoying coconut without the lime, as the aftertaste of the lime rind isn't to my liking.

As for the Blue Lagoon, a small size would cost LKR 590. However, I didn't personally order this drink, so I'm unable to provide a review on its taste or presentation.

Did you enjoy reading this review as much as i did?

5🤩 Crystal Prawn Dumpling LKR1500  MUST TRY  🤤 Simple but i loved it! Glistening in a pearl-like sheet, these dumplings are a visual feast. Delicately wrapped, each bite reveals a succulent prawn, offering a taste as light as the ocean breeze. 5🌟 Chicken Scallops and Chives Dumpling LKR1500 Shaped like an ear, with a slight roast enhancing the hidden, lightly flavored meatball. Despite the initial scare, guests devoured it like a salad. Fried in a light batter with a golden syrup bath, the fish body surprises with a bone-free, crunchy delight. The hint of pineapple, sweet corn, and the crunch of bell pepper leave you yearning for more. 🤩 XO Fried Rice with Scallops and Prawns LKR2900  MUST TRY  A loaded delight with prawns and egg, making additional side dishes nearly obsolete. 5 ⭐️ Sich...

Kaikos - No tax

Brightly lit and featuring a play area for kids with various toys and activities, this space aims to evoke nostalgia with its old Sinhala songs reminiscent of an old Kade. Staff Are nice and welcoming  3.5 ⭐️  Salmon Cheese Sandwich (700/-)  A basic sandwich served hot, with the perfect amount of spice. Although the cheese was hardly noticeable, I'll definitely order this again. 4.5 ⭐️  Latte (650/-)  A perfectly crafted, regular latte without sugar. It’s just right. 4 ⭐️  Coconut Latte (750/-)  I initially thought this would be made with coconut milk, but it’s a regular latte topped with desiccated coconut flakes. Slightly sweeter than the regular latte, it's pleasant but not something I’d order again. 3⭐️Club Sandwich – 1000/- The fries accompanying the sandwich had an unpleasant aftertaste, suggesting that the oil used for frying was subpar. The sandwich itself fell short of a true club sandwich. While it featured multiple layers, the meat—possibly ...

Central all day dining- Shangrila buffet

New year dinner for 4 pax without taxes - 50,000/- (12,500 per person)  It was undoubtedly a crowded evening at the Central Cafe in Shangila. We had booked appointments to eat there during the celebrations for the new year. As in usual days they have a variety of menu, but they yet again made it extravagant.  There were several meat carvings, including hog, turkey, and fish, along with a wide selection of sauces, veggies, pickles, and condiments and not mention the ice carvings that one can admire inclusive a cheese fountain.      In 1971, Malaysian entrepreneur Robert Kuok introduced the Shangri-La chain of hotels. The first Shangri-La hotel debuted in Singapore in 1971, and since then the company has grown to include hotels all over the world under its renowned luxury hotel brand. Consequently, you will find some foreign chefs and management maintaining the international standards and it also  adds a Singaporean and Hong Kong touch in their menu. Even tho...
