The Bavarian (German restaurant)

BETTER RESERVE, ON WEEKENDS.

✅

- Dim lit with pub vibe
- Didn’t notice the music
- Courteous old staff who knew the menu well
- Food presentation was basic
- Alcohol is available
- Halal - ?
Kid friendly - ?

The seats are quite quite compact, so if you are big made corner seats are not the best option.

TOTAL BILL VALUE: LKR 21,846/- (2adults with 2 fussy kids)

Disclaimer: This is my fourth time trying the Christmas menu, and although I prefer spicy food, I don't find the menu to be very pleasurable because the items I eat tend to be sugary or undercooked.

4🌟DRY MARTINI  LKR 1265/-

This was strong, but since I feel there is less calories, ill reorder again

Classic and strong

2🌟WHITE CHRISTMAS MARTINI LKR 1300/-

It was a cute presentation! I should have known better than to place a marshmallow order! It was far too sweet. But I believe most holiday beverages are usually overly sugary. (I would suggest this as a dessert beverage) yes its just a festive drink id rather pass

4🌟Strawberry Daiquiris LKR1650/-

The texture of this drink was thick and creamy, mildly sweet which was perfect the slight burn of the alcohol, but my teen  kids said it tasted like medicine. I would have loved it better if it came a frozen drink.

3🌟 MUSHROOM & TRUFFLE CAPPUCCINO  LKR1100/-

Creamy and the bread stick that accompanied it was quite hard

4🌟Goulash LKR1210 , At the first taste it was like a thick stew / gravy (more of curry taste minus the coconut cream) with good number of mixed spices, after some time I actually enjoyed the taste and the texture of the soup which had bits of vegetables and beef and had a wonderful aroma. BUT I did not see that Dollop of sour cream which was a disappointment

Although the soup was tasty, there were some lumps of flour, which I believe to have been the soup's base thickener. Since the truffles were finely diced, I would say the soup had a very subtle flavor. Given that it was a fairly hard breadstick, the grissini or bread stick may not have been the finest addition to the soup.

3🌟OVEN ROASTED TURKEY ROULADE with classic gravy, stuffing and roasted vegetables LKR 3500/-

I am aware that the meat's flavor is primarily imparted through the skin. I preferred crispy skin over the chewy, fatty skin I received. Instead of the gravy that was advertised on the menu, I only received the cranberry sauce, which I don't particularly enjoy with meat. notwithstanding the tradition.

I wont go for this again as the points follows

1. It was sweet (yes its a Christmas menu! i should have known better)

2. the turkey skin was still kind of semi cooked, and chewy  ( I would have liked a crispy skin, without those cartilage parts)

4🌟CHICKEN CORDON BLEU WITH CHICKEN HAM LKR 3620/-

My sons only favorite, yes its filled with cheese and deep fried chicken.

Traditional ham and cheese-stuffed crumbed chicken. My children adore it! Although I adore their salad, they typically don't eat it.

5🌟FILLET STAKE WITH PEPPER LKR3750/-

After

You can specify how well the meat should be cooked, but in my opinion, medium-rare is the finest choice. The beef hearty and the pepper sauce

Both my Hubby and daughter only goes for this.

2🌟TRADITIONAL APPLE STRUDEL WITH VANILLA CREAM LKR 1250/-

The strudel is either you love the taste or you hate the taste. The apple tartness was as expected,  the quantity of vanilla cream disappointed.

It would have been great if they had provided more of the vanilla cream, it or the option of vanilla ice cream!

FUN FACT

Why is it called apple strudel?

No wonder strudel derives from the Middle High German word meaning 'whirlpool'. With many different varieties, both savoury and sweet, arguably the most well-known is that of the Apple variety – Apfelstrudel.

Delicately wrapped, each bite reveals a succulent prawn, offering a taste as light as the ocean breeze. 5🌟 Chicken Scallops and Chives Dumpling LKR1500 Shaped like an ear, with a slight roast enhancing the hidden, lightly flavored meatball. A vibrant presentation adds to the overall experience. 🤩 Sweet and Sour Garupa LKR7000  MUST TRY  The star of the table, initially intimidating with its head and eyes. Despite the initial scare, guests devoured it like a salad. Fried in a light batter with a golden syrup bath, the fish body surprises with a bone-free, crunchy delight. The hint of pineapple, sweet corn, and the crunch of bell pepper leave you yearning for more. 🤩 XO Fried Rice with Scallops and Prawns LKR2900  MUST TRY  A loaded delight with prawns and egg, making additional side dishes nearly obsolete. 5 ⭐️ Sich...

Kaikos - No tax

Brightly lit and featuring a play area for kids with various toys and activities, this space aims to evoke nostalgia with its old Sinhala songs reminiscent of an old Kade. Staff Are nice and welcoming  3.5 ⭐️  Salmon Cheese Sandwich (700/-)  A basic sandwich served hot, with the perfect amount of spice. Although the cheese was hardly noticeable, I'll definitely order this again. 4.5 ⭐️  Latte (650/-)  A perfectly crafted, regular latte without sugar. It’s just right. 4 ⭐️  Coconut Latte (750/-)  I initially thought this would be made with coconut milk, but it’s a regular latte topped with desiccated coconut flakes. Slightly sweeter than the regular latte, it's pleasant but not something I’d order again. 3⭐️Club Sandwich – 1000/- The fries accompanying the sandwich had an unpleasant aftertaste, suggesting that the oil used for frying was subpar. The sandwich itself fell short of a true club sandwich. While it featured multiple layers, the meat—possibly ...

Central all day dining- Shangrila buffet

New year dinner for 4 pax without taxes - 50,000/- (12,500 per person)  It was undoubtedly a crowded evening at the Central Cafe in Shangila. We had booked appointments to eat there during the celebrations for the new year. As in usual days they have a variety of menu, but they yet again made it extravagant.  There were several meat carvings, including hog, turkey, and fish, along with a wide selection of sauces, veggies, pickles, and condiments and not mention the ice carvings that one can admire inclusive a cheese fountain.      In 1971, Malaysian entrepreneur Robert Kuok introduced the Shangri-La chain of hotels. The first Shangri-La hotel debuted in Singapore in 1971, and since then the company has grown to include hotels all over the world under its renowned luxury hotel brand. Consequently, you will find some foreign chefs and management maintaining the international standards and it also  adds a Singaporean and Hong Kong touch in their menu. Even tho...
